Just a bit more moss on the wall

A low stone wall like this one, carpeted in moss, feels lush and timeless.

I have a tiny area outside the kitchen window, which Tracy McQue has designed for me into a pleasant seating area, and I’m slowly dressing it with plants and ornaments, including a stone triangular pond I picked up at Pentland Plants last month.

Moss is already growing on the pond and along the stone wall at one side of the courtyard, and I want more moss! This stone wall I saw Cambo State last weekend has fueled my passion for the stuff.

What is it about moss, and ferns and the drip drip of water that lends an enchanted atmosphere to a space? I’d like to plant adiantum and some of the shuttlecock ferns in my courtyard… I hope the former isn’t too tender to grow outside here in Scotland.
