Plant pin-up: white Washfield double hellebore

Here’s a close up of one of my favourite flowers in the garden: a white-flowered Washfield double hellebore.

I wasn’t sure if it would re locate easily, but a plant I moved to a position under my bedroom window last October is now coming into flower.

I went to the garden centre yesterday to find some new hellebores I could plant, but the foliage on all of them was dull and unreflective. I think I’m going to stay with the seed-sown hellebores I plant myself, even if it does take several years with them to come into flower.

What are you planting in your garden this January? Have you managed to resist the temptation to buy?
